Sermon Titbits

Entries for November 2013

Without any doubt, the greatest thing in all of life is to live our lives for God. The Bible says "Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: fear God and keep His commandments, for this is man’s all. For God will bring every work into judgment, including every secret thing, whether good or evil”. (Ecclesiastes 12: 13 – 14 NKJV). The Bible says in Ps. 139:14 that we are fearfully and wonderfully made. We are unique in every way and one of our uniqueness is that we can think and make decisions. We have the free will to choose between good and bad and between right and wrong.

Thanksgiving is an expression of gratitude, especially to God. It is the act of giving thanks, grateful acknowledgement of benefits or favors, especially to God. Only God is reliable and dependable. He is the unchangeable changer and the unmovable mover. He is the mountain mover and the one who opens doors. We must always remember to give thanks because this is the will of God for all of us (I Thess. 5:18). It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord and to sing thy praise O Most High (Psalm 92: 1). Even in times of tragedy, we should give thanks to God for what remains because He is the reason why we have not lost everything. When there is life, there is hope. It is of the Lord's mercies we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness (Lam. 3:22). Our God is everything to us. He is Jehovah Jireh, Jehovah Shammah, Jehovah Jireh, and Jehovah Rohi. He supplies our needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

Many believers have said they don't know how to hear from God. In order for us to succeed in our walk with God we must train our ears to hear from God and distinguish His voice from every other voice we hear.

For the past couple of weeks, we have been discussing the topic of overflow because that is God's word for JHES in 2013. I believe many of us already have a testimony of overflow and peradventure, you have not, there is still a lot that God can do before the end of the year. Previously, we discussed how God used five loaves of bread and two fishes to feed the multitude and there were still 12 baskets full of overflow. After that, I taught on the principle that obedience precedes the overflow and I used the first public miracle of Jesus to explain the principle. Although obedience is a major key to receiving an overflow, there are other factors that can also contribute to it. These points are based on our Bible Study on the Theme - The Lord is my Shepherd.
