Introduction: Matt 6:25-34 (TLB) God is saying to us to trust Him and refuse to be anxious for anything in life. Food, drink, clothes are important; He knows we need them but worrying about them does not add moments to our lives. The birds and field lilies are taken care of by God, but He says we are of more value to Him than these. When we worry and are deeply concerned about what we don’t have, we are not different from the heathen that do not know God.

(Matthew 6: 25 – 34)

God is encouraging us to give him first place in our lives, He knows perfectly well what we need and will give it to us. We ought not to be anxious for tomorrow; He admonishes us to live one day at a time because He will take care of tomorrow. God loves us more than we can love ourselves, He is more ambitious for us, and He wants us to be successful.  You have to stop depending on your salaries, friends, or families; they may not always be there. When we depend on man we are cursed and our heart is far from God (Jeremiah 17:5)

How to trust God: You must get to know Him for yourself and understand that He loves you. David knew God was his strengthener, deliverer, shield, buckler; God was full of mercy towards him. He had the assurance that God will deliver Goliath into his hands like He did the lion and the bear.  David knew he could count on God no matter what he faced. The book of psalms is filled with everything David thought God was to him.  We may love God and try to prove it to Him by coming to church regularly, or serving in God’s house. This is important but it does not make up for spiritual growth.  We need to study His word, pray, worship and praise Him not only in Church but outside as well.

Trust Vs. Faith: Faith is absolutely different from trust.  Trust breeds commitment while faith breeds confidence. Faith is very important in the life of every Christian; you cannot believe or please God without faith. Hebrews 11:1-3 tells us what faith is. Faith is expressing our confidence in God, but you can lose it or cast it away (Heb. 10:23 and 35). Faith can also fail, Jesus prayed for Peter that he would not lose his faith in the face of tribulations (Luke 22: 31-32).

Trust never fails; Ps. 125: 1-2 tells us when we trust in the Lord, we are like mount Zion that can never be moved. The weight of the situation or extent of the conflicts does not change your commitment to God. For this reason, He will be with you forever and surround you with his presence.  He will command His blessings on you when you trust Him (Jer. 17:7, Ps. 34:8 & 22).  Faith believes God can do it, trust says even if He doesn’t I am still in Him.  Trust was what Daniel had in the lion’s den; what Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego had in the fiery furnace, Paul and Silas in the prison, Esther before the king.

Trust Commands Rest: When you believe God is working things out for you, you feel at rest even when it looks like the circumstance is not changing. He has promised He will fight for you (Exodus 14:14).  You must labor in God’s word to see what He says about your situation and you would find rest in His word. No one will doubt the result when God fights for you.
