Introduction: Grace means the free and unmerited favor of God as it's shown in the salvation of man (Romans 5:8; Titus 3:5-7). Grace is free. It is kindness from God that we do not deserve (Eph. 2:1-6). Knowing Jesus is a supernatural experience. We are divinely chosen or selected by God to know Him and also to have eternal life we don't merit. Grace is divine assistance for regeneration and sanctification. The grace of God allows us to come into God's presence without any assistance. By grace are we saved through faith. It is the gift of God and not of works, lest any man should boast (Eph. 2: 8-9).

(Romans 5: 14 – 20)

WHY IS GRACE IMPORTANT TO A CHRISTIAN?
1. We need grace for sanctification: Romans 5:1-2 says that “Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand”. From this scripture we understand that we stand saved and sanctified only by the grace of God and nothing more. Christ died for us ever before we made our way right with Him. Romans 5: 8-9 say that “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him”! The blood of Jesus Christ is our hope for eternity. We make mistakes all the time but through the grace of God that is freely given to us, we know that we have the hope of eternal life.
2. We need grace for our faith:The grace of God allows us to receive whatever we ask for by faith. Without faith it is impossible to please God, so God gives us grace to strengthen our faith as we ask for it.
3. Grace gives us boldness (John 1:12, Ps. 89:24). A child of God is a “touch-not” for the devil. God made the enemies of Jehoshaphat to destroy themselves so that he won’t have to fight in the battle (II Chr. 20). In I Jn. 5:4 the Bible says that we have victory through our faith. God has built an edge of protection around his children like he did for Job. Grace makes us to come with boldness into God’s presence and obtain mercy in the time of need (Heb. 4: 16).
4. Grace brings about open doors:In Heb. 6:14 God says concerning Abraham“surely blessing I will bless thee, and multiplying I will multiply thee”. Romans 5:20-21 says gives us open doors into God’s presence.
HOW CAN WE OBTAIN GRACE?
1. We must be born again: We are open to receive God’s grace through salvation      .
2. Ask for grace daily: Those who ask receive and those who seek shall find and those who knock shall receive an open door (Matt. 7:7)             .
3. Be bold and let go of self. We should boldly come unto the throne of grace to ask for help and find grace to help in time of need (Heb. 4:16)
4. Be humble. “God has respect unto the lowly but the proud He knows afar off (Ps. 138:6)”. Bible also says that “God resist the proud but He gives grace to the humble”.
5. Be gracious to others unconditionally: Grace has been gracious to us and we too should be kind and be gracious to others unconditionally
