The Christian Home (Part I) – The Christian Man

Introduction: A home is a place of abode. It is the place where a person or a family lives. A Christian home is one where Christ is the foundation, the head and the leader. God is the founder of the home and the family and the first home was started by God in the Garden of Eden. A typical home consists of the father, mother and children. In founding the home, the man was created first.

(Gen. 2: 4 – 25)

The Christian Man: In Gen. 1: 26 – 28, the Bible says “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.” From the above we see that God has a purpose for the creation of man and these include:

1. The Christian man is a creator: God the creator of all things made man in His own image. Because our God is a creator, the man that is made in His image also has creative abilities. That’s why the Bible says we shall decree a thing and it shall be established unto us (Job 22: 28) and that death and life are in the power of the tongue (Prov. 18: 21). We get what we say because we can create.

2. The Christian man is an overcomer: In Gen. 1:28 above, God commanded man to subdue the earth and to dominate it; to be fruitful and to multiply in it. It is in line with God’s purpose for the man to conquer and to overcome obstacles in life because he is made for that.

3. The Christian man is responsible: After God created the plants in the garden, He said there was not a man to till the ground, so He created man from the dust of the ground to work in the garden (Gen. 1: 5-7). Adam was also given the responsibility by God of naming every organism created in the garden. From the very beginning, the man has the responsibility of working and providing for his family and that’s why he is called the bread winner. He is responsible for leading his family spiritually, and in every other way.

4. The Christian man is obedient: When God put man in the Garden of Eden, he was instructed by God on what and what not to eat (Gen. 2: 16-17). As long as Adam was obedient, there was peace between him and his creator. Man was created for obedience to God and this is the major key to success in life.

5. The Christian man is a lover: After God made Adam, he took a part of him to make the woman (Gen. 2: 21-22). The moment Adam saw Eve, he fell in love with her and said, “this is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh.” Adam was the one that found his wife; he was the one that pursued his wife, and he was the one that cleaved to his wife (Gen. 2: 23-25). It’s not the other way around. The Christian man is a lover of God and lover of men.
