The Purpose Of The Holy Spirit

Introduction: As we continue to discuss the Holy Spirit, it is expedient for us to understand the reason why the Holy Spirit came into the world. The Bible says in John 14:16 - 17, that "And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. (John 14:16, 17 KJV).

(Acts 2: 1 – 12)

1. The Constant Presence of the Holy Spirit: From scripture above, the primary purpose of the Holy Spirit in our lives is to abide with us for ever. The best thing that can happen to anyone is to have the abiding presence of God the Holy Spirit in their life. Not only so, but to have Him continually forever. This is a heritage of all God’s children living in this dispensation. Before the Holy Spirit came into the world to live with us as it is today, He used to dwell temporarily with people for specific assignments. In Ezekiel 36:27 – 28, the Bible says “And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them. And ye shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers; and ye shall be my people, and I will be your God. (Ezekiel 36:27, 28 KJV). When Saul appointed king over Israel, the Holy Spirit dwelt with him and as long as he was living in obedience to God, the Holy Spirit was with him. When he disobeyed God, he was removed as king. The Holy Spirit left him and came upon David who was anointed in his stead.
When Samson was appointed as a judge in Israel, the Holy Spirit was given to him for his assignment but when committed sin with Delilah, the Holy Spirit left him. Today we live in the dispensation of grace and because of this amazing grace, we can enjoy the presence of the Holy Spirit every moment of every day. In John 14:17 the Bible says “but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. In Romans 8:9, the Bible say “But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. The inward dwelling of the Holy Spirit confirms to us that we are the children of God
