Introduction: Mother's Day is the occasion when we celebrate all mothers in our lives. Mothers have many roles and we want to celebrate their virtues by using the Acronym: M-O-T-H-E-R. We pray for all mothers that you will remain joyful all the days of your life and you shall eat the labor of your hands. You shall be mightily rewarded for your good work upon your family and you shall forever be celebrated.

(Proverbs 31: 10 – 31)

M – Mentor:  A mentor is an experienced and trusted adviser. One of the major roles of mothers is advising their children. Hannah the mother of Samuel mentored his son. After Samuel was born, he went to live in the house of Eli the priest. The two sons of Eli were corrupt in their ways but because Samuel had received good mentoring from his mother, the sons of Eli could not influence him to join in their bad behavior (I Samuel 2: 12 – 20)
O – Overcomer: A mother is an overcomer. She carries the pregnancy of her child for nine months, she goes through the pains of childbirth. She takes care of her children from birth until they become independent. She takes care of the needs of her husband and her family in general. She overcomes many obstacles in order to be a good mother to her children.
T – Teacher: A mother teaches and trains her children in the ways of The Lord. The first classroom that a child knows is the home and the mother is a teacher there. Apart from teaching her children in the ways of God, a Godly mother also teaches her children good behavior. Timothy’s grandmother, Lois, taught Eunice, the mother of Timothy the fear of God. Eunice in turn taught Timothy the ways of God (II Timothy 1:5).
H – Helper: God made a woman to be a helper to her husband. In Gen. 2:18, the Bible says “And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him”. Eve was created to help her husband Adam fulfill his purpose in life. She was the bone of Adam’s bone and the flesh of his flesh. She helped him in taking of the Garden of Eden and in other ways.
E – Encourager: A Godly woman encourages her husband. The encouragement comes in many ways, and indeed in ways too numerous to mention. A woman encourages her husband through her prayers, through her words of affirmation, through the giving of gifts, through her cooking, and for being there through all the different and challenging circumstances of life. Many of us are blessed with encouraging wives and mothers and we should continue to appreciate and love them in return for their encouragement.
R – Resourceful: Mothers are resourceful. They know how to make lemonade out of lemon. In Prov. 31: 10-31, the Bible provides the example of a resourceful woman and a mother. She is highly productive with her time and uses all the resources provided to her by God to take care of her family. To all mothers, once again, we say HAPPY MOTHERS DAY. We pray that as you have seen your children, you will see your children’s children and it shall be well with you. For all waiting mothers, the God that remembered Hannah will surely remember you. He makes all things beautiful in His time.
